Meet the Author

My name is Aya Mason, and I am currently a senior at Wakefield School in The Plains, Virginia. In the fall, I will be attending James Madison University, where I will study psychology on the pre-med track. I have always been curious about the brain and why humans act the way they do, so I decided to take a deeper dive into eating disorders and how they affect the human body and mind. Watching some of my close peers struggle with eating disorders and body dysmorphia is what inspired me to choose this topic for my senior thesis because I’ve been intrigued by what they’re thinking while struggling. I also wanted to learn about ways I could help them. I believe this is a topic everyone should have some sort of knowledge about because it is, unfortunately, a prevalent theme in our generation, and having some kind of knowledge on it would be beneficial.
